Couple’s Tiff... Taxi Drivers... An Important Accommodation Lesson Learnt
If you ever find a young man laughing like a maniac at the spot where Heathrow transfers services are provided, chances are high that you will be looking at me. The sight of services providing transfers in the airport invariably makes me to laugh a lot. Why? Well, I landed in the capital to see two taxi drivers fighting with each other. I also saw a worried and timid looking couple standing apart looking at the taxi drivers with concern.
By asking around, I found that the couple were the reason why the taxi drivers were fighting. The couple had landed without finalizing their accommodation plans. Further, they had fought on the fight and had booked two taxis in a huff. They had sought accommodation advice from different taxi drivers who recommended hotels that would give them a good commission for bringing guests.
The cold war between the couple ended but the taxi drivers started fighting to save their commission. The taxi drivers got involved and started arguing with each other as to which hotel was better. The argument reached such proportions that the taxi drivers started shoving each other. Seeing this, the couple decided consoled each other sought to leave the area.
This was when the issue became really comic. The taxi drivers made it very clear that they were the root cause of the problem and that they would have to wait until the argument was settled. Further, the taxi drivers told them that they will have to pay for the loss suffered. The end result was that the couple ended paying a small gratuity to the taxi drivers to compensate the loss.
I still laugh a lot when I remember this event. I learned an important lesson that day. It is advisable to finalize accommodation details before you land on your vacation. I learned my lesson when I observed the couple struggling to get good quality accommodation and ended up compensating the taxi drivers for the loss suffered. It would be advisable to plan your accommodation irrespective of your destination.
